Cornish Creams Ingredients - Allergens

This is perhaps not one of the most exciting pages on the CornishCreams website, but here we try and give you more information on some of the ingredients which we use to make Cornish Creams.

Vegetable Oils      Essential Oils      Active Ingredients      Allergens      NOT

Firstly, let me say that we are very conscious of obtaining the best quality ingredients we can, and making sure that there is consistency of supply wherever possible. At every step of the way I try to be as thoughtful as possible regarding the quality of the products used to make your Cornish Creams.

Allergens are also listed - there is a legal obligation to specify certain ingredients used in cosmetic products. Very small percentages need to be listed as being contained, to protect those who might be sensitive to them. Mostly, they are constituent components of Essential Oils, and are not added, per se.

For example, Tea Tree Essential Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) contains Limonene at 4% by volume. Consequently, any product containing Tea Tree Essential Oil will also contain a small percentage of Limonene. Cool Blue Cream from Cornish Creams contains Tea Tree Essential Oil, amongst others, therefore Limonene needs to be listed as an ingredient, although I don't have a 'bottle' of Limonene.

Typically, a 50ml jar of Cool Blue Cream will contain approximately 3 or 4 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil, and 4% of this is Limonene. So if my maths is correct, a 50ml jar contains the equivalent of one one hundreth of a drop of Limonene. It is present as one part per 100,000, which is the same as saying 10 parts per million, or expressed as a percentage it is 0.001%

Whether or not the allergens need to be 'declared' on the ingredients listing, depends upon the percentage in the finished product, and also upon whether the product is one which is meant to be washed off (as in a shampoo) or whether it is meant to stay on the skin (as in a face cream)

Listed here in alphabetical order, are the declarable substances which could be in Cornish Creams, and the Essential Oils in which they occur. It is important to stress again that these have not been added, but occur naturally in the Essential Oils.

Citral - in Geranium and Palmarosa

Citronellol - in Geranium and possibly Rose

Geraniol - in Geranium, Lavender and Palmarosa

Limonene - in Geranium,Lavender,Palmarosa,Peppermint,Spearmint and Tea Tree

Some Cornish Creams contain Nut Oils, for example Almond Oil, or Macadamia Nut Oil. When this is the case, it will normally be mentioned in the description of the product so that people with nut allergies can be made aware. If you have any concerns about ingredients or allergens, then please use the "Contact" button, (found at the top of each page) and ask us, we will give you any extra information we can.
